Instead, you want to create interest by hiding some parts by using planting or screening which encourages you on a journey to discover hidden parts and enjoy each area once bit at a time. You don’t need a large garden for this, even a small courtyard can achieve this with clever design.
Soften hard surfaces - having hard surfaces like fences, walls or sheds visible are a big no-no. They are often bland, jaded and jarring to look at. Softening these up using planting or more aesthetically pleasing materials like nice timber, tiles or even just painting them can make a huge difference.
Focal points - it’s always a good idea to have a focal point in your garden. This can be as simple as a pergola, a nice red cedar timber screen or something like a water feature. It creates interest and an established area to enjoy.
